Season Record: 14-14, 2nd NL East
Week in the Review: (3-3) Series win vs Phillies, Series loss vs Brewers
Dude of the week: Steven Matz ( 2 GS 13 IP, 3 ER,10 K, 2 BB vs Phillies, Brewers)
Dud of the week: Michael Conforto (.167 BA, 3 H, 7 BB, 6 SO)
Snapshot: As the season progresses it's clear to see that the offense is ahead of the defense at this point. Proof of this is the -20 run differential. The reason why they're in 2nd place is that the beginning of the season the NL East has been beating each other up and no one has stood out to this point. This week in particular its been the back end of rotation that has been carrying the team. Aside from Matz, let's give Zack Wheeler some love as well with two quality starts including a 5 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio, and holding opponents to a .250 BA. Jacob deGrom's first start off the injured list was not his best to say the least. To date he has given up more home runs this season, then he did all last season. Syndergaard is still trying to find his footing this season. Needs to put together back to back quality starts for the Mets to have a chance this season. Jason Vargas showing some signs, but right now he is there to just eat up innings. The bullpen is making the most of its opportunities as Edwin Diaz is 8 for 8 as of Sunday in save chances.
Rookie Pete Alonso is still tearing it up as he continues to make his case not only for NL Rookie of the Year, but arguably the best player on the team. 2nd yera player Jeff Mc Neil continues to make strides of his own. Michael Conforto, normally a consistent hitter, had a bad week at the plate. Robinson Cano for the second time this season gets hit on his hands. He should be fine within a few days.
Due up: 4/29-5/2 home vs Cincinnati, 5/3-5/5 at Milwaukee
Watch to Watch 4: With the calendar changing by week's end, the Mets are looking to end the first full month of the season at .500 or better. They're off to a decent start. However we are just getting started. We're still monitoring the statuses of Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel. The diamond rumor mill has it that the Blue Jays are going to be early sellers. Might not hurt to take a look at what they got.
