2020 Guide to Voting in Connecticut

Election Day - Tuesday, November 3, 2020 - is nearing! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have elected to vote by absentee ballot, or even participate in early voting. Here's what you need to know about voting in-person this Election Day in Connecticut:

  • Where do I vote?
    • You can look-up your assigned polling location HERE.
  • How do I check my voter registration?
    • Check to see if you're registered to vote by looking up your name, town/city and birthdate HERE.
    • You can still register to vote on Election Day! Check the list of Election Day Registration Locations HERE. Registration is not possible at polling locations.
  • What times do polling places open in Connecticut?
    • Locations are open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. If you are standing in line at 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.
  • Other than the President and Vice President of the United States of America, who else is on the ballot?

  • How are polling places practicing social distancing?
    • Wear a mask when you go vote in-person and social distance measures will be taken at all polling places.
  • What do I need to bring to vote in-person?
    • Something with your name or address displayed on it. You do not need a photo identification.
  • How does voting work?
    • You will be handed a piece of paper, directed to a private desk area and will fill in bubble choices on the ballot using a felt-tip pen. Voters can leave columns blank, if desired. Once the form has been completed, the voter places the sheet into a scanner which reads the selections and stores the results within the machine itself. The machine is not tied to the internet, which prevents hackers from accessing election data.
    • Lever machines were removed after Congress passed the Help America Vote Act in 2002.
  • Who do I contact if there are issues at the polling place or on Election Day?
    • The Connecticut Election Day Hotline: 1-866-733-2463 or by emailing Elections[@]ct.gov
  • If I voted by absentee ballot, when does that need to be returned?
    • By 8 p.m. on Election Day. Only completed ballots received before that deadline will be counted.
    • Absentee ballots should be placed in a the secure drop-box located at the Town Clerk's office
